Inheriting the Saree
Sudeshna Saxena is a maker who thrives on exploration and the discovery that comes with working with various materials. She deeply believes in learning through hands-on creation, which is the foundation of her work.
Describing her work 'Inheriting the Saree,' Sudeshna writes: "I must have been around 5 or 6 years old when I first consciously encountered the saree, in that I tried to wear it myself. It felt like I was swimming in an endless river, expansive and intimidating. Uncontrollable. The images here hinge on this core memory, where the ‘river’ flows through generations of women, uninterrupted. It does, however, make way for change and interpretation with time. Like water taking the shape of the vessel it is poured into."
